Kuna Excellence: Student Success; Hometown Athletics, and Get Involved

Dear Kuna Community,

It is inspiring to see our students putting their skills and knowledge into action across our district.

Our students are excelling inside and outside the classroom. From high school fabrication students installing new benches at Fremont Middle School to our FFA members showing livestock at the fair, our youth continue to demonstrate why Kuna School District is the best choice in our community.

That same energy is on display as fall sports and activities kick off.

We hosted the great high school Kuna Classic Volleyball Tournament last weekend. This weekend, Friday Night Lights starts with the first home game Friday at 7 p.m.

Student Learning Highlights

Our K–12 students have settled into daily routines with a focus on their learning goals.

Recent State Report Card results reflect their hard work and the dedication of our staff. Here are some highlights:
  • District Standings: Advanced to 6th out of 20 Treasure Valley districts in Math.
  • Academic Growth: Math scores rose 1.5% and Science increased by 4.6%, both outperforming state averages.
  • Reading Progress (IRI): Early literacy proficiency jumped from 50.2% in the fall to 67% in the spring.
  • Graduation Rate: Rose to 85.7% (5.2% above the state average).
  • English Language Learners: 52.7% demonstrated proficiency growth, with 13% exiting the program—both exceeding state averages.
  • Operational Excellence: No schools in state-mandated improvement status, backed by an 82.1% teacher retention rate and low chronic absenteeism (11.2%, well below the state average).

Submit School Meal Application by Sept. 24

If your child receives free or reduced priced meals and you haven't filed an application the 2026-27 school year, the deadline is Thursday, Sept. 24.

Here's the link to apply. Below is more information:

Q: Does my student need a new application every year?

A: Yes. If your child was approved for free or reduced meals last year, their status will stay active for the first 30 school days (Sept. 24) of the new school year. This gives you time to submit a new application. If a new application is not turned in by the deadline, your student will automatically transition to full-price meals.

Q: Do I need a separate application for each student?

A: No. You only need to submit one application per household, even if your children attend different schools within the district.

Q: Our household receives government assistance. Does my student automatically receive free meals?

A: Maybe. Our child nutrition team has already run our initial automatic approvals and continues to update this list daily.
  • Check Your Email First:  If your student qualifies automatically through state programs, you should have already received an approval email. If you received this email, your child is set for the year and you do not need to fill out an application.
  • Who Qualifies Automatically?: Students receiving SNAP or TAFI benefits, or those classified as Foster or Migrant in Idaho, automatically receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily.
  • Medicaid Benefits: If your student receives Medicaid based on household income (not disability), they are eligible for the program. The state will assign them free or reduced status based on your reported income. (Note: Katie Beckett Medicaid does not qualify).
  • What if I didn't get an email?  If you believe your household qualifies under these programs but you have not received an approval email, please go ahead and complete the online application to ensure your students are covered.

Too Many Notifications? Did You Know ParentSquare Lets You Control When & How You Receive Messages

By default parent notification settings are set at instant to email, text, and app.

Users can change their settings to their preference for when to receive messages and how. Find this option under your account.

Set Your Preferences Via the App

Update your Notification Setting (using mobile app)
  1. From Home, tap the triple bar menu (≡) in the top left. 
  2. Tap Account. 
  3. Tap Notifications. 
  4. Use the toggle to turn School Alerts on or off. 
  • On: Get all alerts and notices. 
  • Off: Only get urgent alerts and critical notices. 
  1. Under Direct Messages, use the toggle to turn on each way you want to be notified: 
  • App: Get a push notification right away.
  • Text: Get a text right away.
  • Email: Get an email right away.
  1. Under Posts, use the toggle to turn on each way you want to be notified. You can turn on Mobile, Email, or both. After you turn one on, tap Instant or Digest:
  • Instant: Get a notification as soon as a post is sent. 
  • Digest (recommended): Get one notification a day with all of that day’s posts.

Set Your Preference Via Computer

Update your Notification Settings (using web browser)
  1. From Home, click your name and select Manage Account.
  2. Click Notification Settings.
  3. Choose your preferred notification settings:
Urgent Alerts & Notices: 
  • On: Notifications for Attendance notices, Urgent Alerts, and Auto Notices marked as critical are enabled automatically and cannot be disabled.
Posts: 
  • Instant: Notifications are delivered as soon as possible after a post is sent. Note: if both app and text notifications are set to instant, the post will be sent via Smart Notification Delivery. 
  • Digest: Notifications are delivered in the evening in the time zone of the institute.
  • Off: If the user selects Off, no notifications will be delivered to this email/phone/app for the school or district. Note: The Off setting is overridden for urgent alerts. 
Direct Messages:
  • Email: Notifications are delivered instantly via email. 
  • Text: Notifications are delivered instantly via text. 
  • App: Notifications are delivered instantly via push. 
Alerts & Notices:
  • On: You will receive all Smart Alerts and Auto Notices from this school or district.
  • Off: You will only receive Urgent Alerts and Critical Auto Notices.
