Application Process:
- Application:
The first step is to complete the application form that will be available on the Initial Point High School website starting March 14th. This application gathers preliminary information needed to assess eligibility and placement into our program.
- Intake Interviews: To provide the best support for each of our students- the team here at Initial Point interviews every potential student and their family. The purpose of the interview is to a) gain insight into each student’s individual needs and reasons for wanting to attend Initial Point, b) provide detailed information on who we are as a school and what enrollment at Initial Point looks like, and c) make sure that both the family and the team at Initial Point feel that this is the best placement for the student’s success.
- Transcript Review:
After the interview, our school counselor will review the student's transcript to determine which credits are still needed for graduation. This step helps us assess whether we can accommodate the student’s needs within our master schedule.
- Offer of Enrollment:
At this point, if everything checks out, we will contact the family to offer a spot in our school. Additional orientation steps will be outlined to help the student integrate smoothly into our learning environment.
- The Waitlist:
To maintain an environment that is conducive to student success, Initial Point follows the State Department of Education’s guidelines on maintaining smaller teacher-to-student ratios. Our smaller class sizes are one of the biggest factors that contribute to student success at Initial Point. Unfortunately, that means that we are limited in the number of students we can enroll in our school. Admission to Initial Point is not on a first-come, first-served basis. More information on how we prioritize admission is included below. That being said, the beginning of a new school year offers the most availability. When we reach capacity, communication will go out to families who are then considered on our “Wait List.” From there, a few weeks before each quarter we review our current enrollment to determine how many open spots we have. We then begin contacting families from our waitlist. NOTE: The waitlist does not carry over to the next school year- if you are still interested in attending Initial Point High School, a new application will need to be submitted for the new year.
Prioritization of Admission:
Admission is not based on the order of application submission. We prioritize our waitlist based on several factors:
- The number of qualifying at-risk criteria met.
- How close the student is to their graduation deadline.
- The severity of the student's need for alternative education.
- Whether we are able to serve the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if applicable.
This process ensures that we are serving the students most in need of our services while maintaining the integrity of our academic programs.
Looking Ahead: The application for the 2025-2026 school year will be published on March 14th, 2025. Families are encouraged to apply early. The admission team will begin conducting Intake Interviews in April.
