August Update: A Note From The Principal

Welcome Back, Phoenixes!

We’re just one week into the new school year, and already I am so proud of our students. This year’s theme, Forged Through Fire, reminds us that strength isn’t built in easy times—it’s shaped in moments of challenge and change. As a school, we are facing some hard adjustments together, and while change is never simple, it is through these moments that we grow stronger as a community.

One of the biggest challenges this year is learning to adapt to our new cell phone policy. I know this has not been easy—for students or for staff. But I’ve already seen such resilience in the way our students are showing up, trying, and making the effort to adjust. That effort matters. It shows commitment not just to the rules, but to creating a learning environment where focus, connection, and growth can flourish.

To be an IPHS Phoenix means rising from difficulty, carrying the lessons forward, and supporting one another along the way. This first week has shown me that our students are up to the challenge. We will continue to walk this path together, with patience, persistence, and the knowledge that every trial we face is shaping us into something stronger.

Welcome back, and a special welcome to our newcomers—we are so glad you’re here. I’m looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling year of growth with all of our students.

PICTURE DAY

Picture Day
Picture Day is this Tuesday, September 2nd! We’ll send out a reminder on Monday evening. After photos are taken, students will receive information on how to order pictures. School ID cards will also be distributed at that time.

Friday Intervention

Friday Intervention
This Friday, 8/29/25, there are no regularly scheduled classes. Students who currently have a grade below 70% are expected to attend Friday Intervention to work directly with their teachers and improve their progress. Any student who would like extra help or simply a quiet place to work is also welcome to attend. Friday Intervention runs from 8:00–11:30 a.m. Next week, individual notes will go home to families of students who are required to attend.

Counselors Corner

Welcome back to school, IP families!

As we begin the school year, it has been so wonderful to see familiar faces again and get to know all of our new students as well. I am sure that this school year will be a great one!

Just a reminder for all graduating seniors- I sent out a link through Parent Square to sign up for a time to meet with parents and students to discuss the credits they need to graduate, go over their schedule for the year, discuss their plan post-graduation, and go over important dates for seniors. I still have 10 seniors that do not have a meeting scheduled. Please reach out to me to get that set up.

I will have a social work intern again this year: Katherine Acevedo. She is excited to get to know our students and start checking in on them and getting groups set up. If you feel like your student might need some extra support, is experiencing mental health struggles, or would benefit from a group focused on anxiety, please let me know.

Katherine and I will soon be passing out clothing vouchers for those that shared during their intake meeting that this resource would be helpful. If you need one and did not mention it (or just want to make sure you’ll get one), let me know. We will also begin doing weekend backpacks- our weekly food bag that students have the option of picking up for extra food to take home on the weekends.

As always, reach out if you’d like to set up a time to discuss your student (credits, challenges, resources, whatever!)
