Student successes from Quarter 2
January Update: A Note From The Principal
Dear Phoenix Families,
This month brought the end of quarter 2, signifying that we're halfway through the school year! I can hardly believe how fast the time has gone. For me, the best part of the end of a quarter is getting to celebrate our amazing student's and their success stories.
Here at Initial Point we have a long held tradition. When the final credit is earned, students, teachers, and staff gather in the hallway while the final bell is rung. In our case, a literal bell! This quarter we had five students "ring the bell!" Please join me in congratulating Emma Martinez, Bryson Duff, Isabelle Turcato, Bryson Chan, and Nathaniel Anthony on completing all of their high school graduation requirements!

In addition to our Bell Ringers, each quarter the staff works together to identify one student from each grade level to be named Initial Point Track Star. Being a Track Star means rising above the rest with Resilience, Integrity, Strength, and Excellence. Students recognized were given an award and a $10 Dutch Bros gift card. This quarter's Track Stars were: Lance Crabtree, Kairi Winberg, Alex Seitz, and Jasmine Madsen. Way to go, guys, and thank you for your dedication to your education and our school community!

A common struggle for Initial Point students is attending school regularly. We work hard to help students build healthy habits that will aid in their success. In an effort to not neglect those students who are already practicing great attendance habits, we spent time in our assembly last Friday recognizing a handful of students who had no more than 1 absence in any class the entire quarter! Students who were recognized received an award and a coupon for 1 free item from our Phoenix Next store.

Today we are almost two weeks into our 3rd quarter. Please partner with us in encouraging students to keep the positive momentum by attending school regularly and working hard to do well in their classes!

Friday Intervention
Friday, January 31st, is our last reglular school day Friday for the quarter. Beginning next week we will return to our typical Friday Intervention Schedule. We have welcomed several new families to Initial Point this quarter so for their sake, here is a quick rundown of what that means!

Wednesday, teachers will provide me with a list of the students who are struggling to stay caught up in their classes and are either failing, or close to failing. Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning I will send messages out via Parent Square to notify families of those students that they are expected to be here on Friday. Friday, teachers will be available to work with students between 8 and noon, open "office hours" style. Students are expected to prioritize working in the classroom(s) of the teacher(s) who requested their presence.

Students not invited are still welcome to come in to work if they wish to.

Counselors Corner
Happy January, IPHS Families!

There are some important dates coming up to be aware of. On February 4th, there will be a FAFSA Lunch Session at IPHS in the library from 11:15-12:00 pm. Tia from TRIO and I will be there to help students and parents complete the FAFSA and make sure their Idaho Launch Application has been completed.
Several IPHS students have received their contingent offers for Idaho Launch already and need to log in and accept it by February 7th! Check in with your student to make sure they have completed this step. If they aren’t sure, have them come find me.
Tia and I have several opportunities for other scholarships available to students. If your student is interested in getting free money for college or a trade program, have them come talk to me about it.
Prom tickets are now on sale! Prom will be held at the Lounge at the End of the Universe in Boise on April 19th. It is the first time IPHS will have prom at a venue and we are so excited for students to experience this event. Tickets are $20 for a single and $35 for a couple. ALL grades are welcome to attend prom. Don’t miss out on what will be an unforgettable night!
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your student.

Best,

Kyra Brown
